Which iPhones can record with two cameras at once?

Short answerApps can record two cameras at once on iPhones whose hardware supports it, which Apple has allowed since iOS 13. iPhone 17 models also have Dual Capture in the Camera app.

Recording from two cameras at the same time, such as front and back, needs hardware and software support. Apple's developer documentation says multi-camera capture is supported on iPhone XS, XS Max and XR and later models, with a recent version of iOS. Support varies by model and by which combination of cameras you want.

How to check your own phone

  • Open Settings, General, About, and note the model name and iOS version.
  • Check Apple's current documentation for your model.
  • Try the feature in the app. If it is not supported, a well-designed app tells you.

Why it varies

Two cameras need more processing, power and heat management. Older phones and some modes do not support it.

Our app's dual-camera features will depend on your iPhone model and iOS version. Compatibility details will be published before release.
